Things to Consider When Buying a Car

Things to Consider When Buying a Car
By A Smith

Buying a new car is a major purchase with major amounts of money leaving your pocket. Ask an honest car salesman and he will tell you that he is trying to get his potential customers to buy something they dont really need. Ask a dishonest salesman and he wont tell you why. That about sums it up plus it opens the door for all kinds of scam artists to try to use tricks to get you to buy a new car. Arm yourself with all the information you can when buying a new car. Here are some tips:

There are some classic scams that car salespeople use to get you to sign the dotted line on a sales contract. Get on the internet and see what these scams are. Car salespeople are probably the most persuasive type of salesmen/women (most tend to be men) that you will come across. It is very tempting to give into their hype.

Dont be afraid to say No.

If there is ONE thing you dont like about a car dont buy it. That one thing will bug you down the road as you make those expensive car payments and the honeymoon has worn off. Often, people find the need to purchase another car than keep mending the current one, because of their poor decision making when purchasing the existing one.

Dont give the salesperson a feel for what you like and dont like. Dont get too personal with the salesperson. Scam and con artists are skilled at getting into you head and detecting something you have an emotional or preference stake in. Keep focused on buying a car and try to avoid the small talk with the salesperson.

How much is that car really going to cost you in terms of maintenance, insurance, and fuel? There are web sites where you can get this information. Another bit of knowledge to arm yourself with is knowing how much that car loan is going to cost you in terms of interest.

Check your credit report and correct any errors that may be there. It will help to get your loan approved faster.

Read reviews on various cars and educate yourself before going to the car lot. The internet has a wealth of information resources for buying new cars.

Today, there are many places where you can purchase a car. There are classifieds in your local newspapers, local car dealerships, car magazines, the internet, with a huge array of sites, also offers many great deals. Ebay is also an increasingly popular destination to find cars and not necessarily just to from it. Ebay can also be used for researching the car you are looking to buy. You can use it to gain an idea of how much cars in general go for based on your specifications and conditions. There are many, many new listings every hour that you can browse through to help find your new car.

Wholesale Car Audio

Wholesale Car Audio
By Peter Emerson

Car audio systems are one of the most wanted luxury items today. And many of us try to look for the cheapest options available. Any product is marketed through a chain of manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and customers. You can get wholesale rates if the retailer is skipped. But in most cases, car audio systems are supplied only through retailers. Getting car audio systems at discounted prices is convenient with online shopping, auctions, dealer discounts and used products. But authentic car audio systems on wholesale basis can be tricky to find.

There are online wholesale clubs which provide people with information on wholesale deals but the authenticity of products can be questionable. A lot of effort and research is required to locate wholesale sources for car audio systems. Some wholesalers sell new audio systems, some market secondhand systems and a few also auction for bulk deals.

Some manufacturers with wholesale units also set up their own retail outlets. This way the customer gets a lower price and the manufacturer enjoys higher profits, as everything is done in-house.

Price is certainly a factor to consider, but source is as important. It is better to verify the source from the manufacturer. Unauthorized dealers may not give a full warranty. Many reputable car audio manufacturers do not allow Internet sales. Nonetheless, we find all brands and models, which may just be gray market items. The seller might not even know that serial numbers have been tampered with, which makes the manufacturers warranty void. Such problems are hard to deal with and trace back if needed.

Do an Internet search on wholesale car audio systems, and hundreds of sites appear claiming to be wholesalers. But most reviews say that the prices are at par with retail. So if you think that you have found a good wholesale deal, beware and check it out before making your final payment.

How To Avoid Getting Burned On Your Used Sports Car Purchase

How To Avoid Getting Burned On Your Used Sports Car Purchase
By Gregg Hall

If you are thinking about buying a pre-owned sports car there are many things to be concerned about that you don't have with a new one. A new sports car will come with warranties and guarantees, plus it has no history to have to worry about. Conversely with a used sports car you will typically get an As Is statement of no warranty and unless you use a service like car fax you will have no idea about its history and even then you don't know everything.

Now don't get me wrong new cars are great and I love some of the latest technological innovations. As a matter of fact, the new electric car from Tesla Motors may have to go on my must have list, but older sports cars have a unique character that you can seldom find in a new car. Here are some ways for you to find the car you are looking for without getting burned in the process.

First off, do your homework and research the car you are interested in using all means at your disposal. Go to Kelly Blue Book to see what they are worth, check AutoTrader and eBay to see what they are selling for. Look for online forums and see if there are any inherent problems with the vehicle you are considering. Consult with mechanics about it, I can promise you if a certain model car has inherent problems a mechanic will tell you about it.

Having a good general knowledge about the car in question is something you should strive for. The research you should have done to this point will give you a good base to work with as you move into the next step of thoroughly investigating the exact car you are interested in buying.

The first thing you want to do is ask for service records, if they are unavailable I wouldn't even consider the car as it indicated a lack of concern with proper maintenance and keeping records to show it. If you get past this step then order a vehicle history from CarFax to ensure that the car hasn't had major damage and that it doesn't have a salvage title.

Now is where all the research you have been doing will pay off. If the car is known for a particular problem you can show the owner your knowledge by asking them what they did to rectify the issue. You will want to go over the car closely and write down everything you see that will need repairing and also watch out for signs that there has already been work done. When you take the car for a drive, be sure to be looking for any of the particular idiosyncrasies that the cars are known to have.

After you have satisfied yourself, get another opinion from a mechanic that you know who has nothing to gain from the transaction. It is always worthwhile to take this step as it can save you a lot of heartache and a lot of money!

Troubleshooting Tips for Car Amplifiers

Troubleshooting Tips for Car Amplifiers
By Chimezirim Chinecherem Odimba

Ever wished you didn't have to take your car amp in for repairs every time a fault occurs? You wish you knew just what to do? Viola! Here are a few troubleshooting tips that can help you...

What to do when your amp goes into protect... The amp goes into protect whenever the volume is turned up most likely because the measure of resistance to vibration is too low. Another reason may be that the charging system is poor. A transistor problem may also cause an amp to go into protect.

To check out these faults, switch off the power supply to the amp. Using a multimeter that has been set to ohms, measure the resistance between the output transistor terminals. If there is any one that reads -0 ohms between any of the terminals, it needs to be removed from the circuit and checked. Once a transistor has failed it means that the whole group in the circuit is shorted and needs to be changed.

Also check the wiring of the speaker to see the resistance to vibration.

What to do when amp gets very hot/shuts down...This problem occurs when the input sensitivity(or gain) is set too high. If the impedance (resistance to vibration) is lower than the amp is rated for, it can also cause this problem or even permanent damage. The solution to this is to ensure that the gain is not tuned all the way up. Be sure to leave a bit of dial space between the maximum and where it is set. Also ensure that the speakers are connected to an impedance (resistance to vibration) that fits the amp.

What to do when your car amp does not turn on...This is a situation that often occurs when amps are set up. This could happen for the following reasons:-

A.The surface where the amp is set on.

B.The hook up of the remote wire.

First ensure that the amp is secured on a smooth metal that is clean and rust-free. The amp must also be snuggly fitted. Next, check and ensure that the remote wire is connected to the blue wire with the white stripe that is hooked up to the head unit and not the solid blue wire.

If the problem persists, it most likely would be that there are parts that are blown or shorted. I advised that you take it in to be tested to ascertain the problem.

What to do when your amp Volume goes down...Most new amps have protective devices that would keep the volume down when the amp begins to get very hot. If this occurs it means that the impedance and gain (input sensitivity) are not commensurate. Ensure that the gain is set correctly. (Refer to What to do when amp gets very hot/shuts down).

What to when your alternator whines or there is noise through the speakers...

This is usually because the amp is not set on a smooth, clean and rust-free surface and that it is not snuggly fitted. If you check these and the noise persists you may need to get a noise suppressor.

If all or any of these doesn't work in your case, let an expert take a look at it.

Your Car Accessories Reflect Your Personality

Your Car Accessories Reflect Your Personality
By Alexus Devon

A man is known by the company he keeps- thus goes the proverb. Truly, the character of a person can be understood from the type of people with whom he spends most of his time. In similar fashion, the personality of a person is reflected by the things attached to him. For example, the car of a person can be considered. If it is well-decorated with car accessories, it will indicate that he has sense of beauty and love of comfort. If it is not that it will suggest the opposite.

It is not necessary that a man should be in possession of an all-new swanky car to show that he has a towering personality. In fact, it is not the brand of the car that matters, rather the way it is maintained is of great importance. So, owning a flashy car is not enough. Dressing up it with high quality car accessories is necessary to create a good impression on the onlookers.

The automobile market is flooded with car accessories of all type. There is plethora of option in colour, quality and size. What one needs is to make his decision on the product he wants. He will get it at the right place and in the right time even without taking the hassles of visiting the shop. This is made possible by the availability of online marketing. One can explore various online shops over the internet and put an order too.

Shopping for car accessories online is safe as it is easy. The products are nicely displayed on the WebPages. So, you can have a look at them before purchasing. You will also have the price mentioned there. So, you can make comparisons and go for the ones that suit your need and fit budget. However, it is advisable to be careful about the duplicate versions of the famous car accessory brands.

Alexus Devon is a automobile writer specializing in automobile and car accessories products and has written authoritative articles on the car accessories industry. He has done his Master in Business Administration and is currently assisting directcaraccessories as a car accessories specialist.

Should I Flush The Radiator In My Car?

Should I Flush The Radiator In My Car?
By Austin Davis

Reader Question: I want to flush the radiator in my car, how do I do it and why should I?
Thanks in advance,
Mark W.

Mark, the first question that comes to mind is WHY do you want to do this? Red flags go up in my head when customers ask me a how do I... question. Some people not only like to diagnose their car problems themselves, but they want to perform the operation as well. This can be a great thing, but only if the diagnosis was correct. If it was not you just wasted your time and money. So my question back to the customer would be what is the problem you are experiencing, and why do you think this operation will solve the problem? Boy do I get a blank stare then!

Flushing a radiator sounds like a wonderful thing to have done periodically to your vehicle, but what does it actually do? You probably have a mental picture of this high powered jet blast of water mixed with some kind of detergent that removes all the gunk that has accumulated in the radiator, and after doing this procedure your car will not only run cooler but... etter, right? I mean this gunk has probably been the source of your engine robbing performance in your mini van for months, right? I hate to put a damper on your parade, but we need to talk.

Most radiators today are small, made of light weight aluminum, and crammed so tightly in the front of the car you can barely see it let alone flush it. The neck of the radiator (where you pour in the antifreeze) is usually angled in such a way that it is impossible to pour in the antifreeze, or even SEE the antifreeze for that matter.

The inside of the radiator is made up of a honey comb maze of rows, or sipes that sends the hot antifreeze on a long meandering journey from left to right of the radiator. Air is being forced through fins on the outside of the radiator to cool down the antifreeze inside the radiator.

Ok, I hope you are still with me because here is the answer to the question. Where does dirt and sediment accumulate in the radiator, at the top or the bottom? The bottom of the radiator will trap the majority of the rust, dirt and sediment.

You can try as hard as you want to, but you will not be able to remove enough of this compacted material to do any real significance in engine performance. The way the radiator is designed internally prevents the access of any high pressure action that you might be able to insert into the small opening of the radiator neck located at the top of the radiator.

At my shop the term flushing the cooling system has been replaced with draining and refilling the cooling system. Removing the lower radiator hose, or if equipped use the radiator drain cock to drain out the old antifreeze and replace with the new fluid is essentially draining and refilling the cooling system.

This of course will only remove any minor surface debris along with the old contaminated fluid, and will probably NOT cure any over-heating complaints you might have been experiencing. Calcium and rust build up within the sipes are the main causes of radiator stoppages, and will cause a over-heating complaint. If this is the case, removal of the radiator from the car for disassembling and rebuilding, or replacing the radiator are really the only two viable options.

Yes, there are many adiator flush additives on the market, but most are not to be used in aluminum radiators (which all newer vehicles are equipped with), or just flat out don't work. There are very few (ok, probably only one or two) problems with a motor vehicle that can be solved by the contents of a can.

So, in a nut shell...draining and refilling your radiator with new antifreeze every two to three years WILL help maintain and extend the life of your vehicle, but will probably NOT have an impact on the way it drives, overall fuel economy, cure a major over-heating problem, or improve handling in wet weather.

Also for added maintenance, ask your mechanic to inspect the radiator and heater hoses, and test or replace the radiator cap when replacing the antifreeze.
